The projects in this section are created by means of the CNC Router or laser cutter.  They incorporate ideas and forms  that can only be expressed by using digital methods of production.

DIGITAL FABRICATIONS

Text Box: ice CUBE
This modular unit is a hollow brick made of clear resin. The model was created in Rhino and then the negative was made on a CNC router out of foam. From there, a plaster positive was created to make a fiberglass shell that would become the tumbler for the resin (as seen below). The resin and a hardening compound were added into the tumbler that was hand rotated. This gave us an even distribution of the resin and made the smooth resin bricks (As seen on the left). This project was completed in a team of three (Members in image to the left)
Text Box: Digital Surface Manipulations
The objective of this project was to manipulate a surface without changing its given contours. Each team of three had a surface and manipulated its interior surface. Then all of the foam surfaces were added together to form a larger surface with many different qualities. Then, each surface was re-created in a new material. My team used OSB to get a marbling effect as the depths of the surface changed.
Text Box: foamCORE
The objective of this project was, as a class, to create an installation that would create unique patterns of light throughout the day while maintaining a sense of aesthetics through form and material. The project was made of individual triangles with different size and shaped apertures based on their position in the installation. There are connection pieces that remain flexible to give the wall some three dimensional character. The project is made out of foam, which is quick and easy to cut on the router.
