The following are concepts for projects or installations that were generated to provoke thought on various issues (both large and small scale).  Many of the concepts are initial responses to a problem, and are taken further and altered into projects seen within the rest of the portfolio.

CONCEPT PROJECTS/INSTALLATIONS

Text Box: Text Box: Urban Fabric: a living space
This concept study is a one week exploration on the urbanism of Beijing in 2008. Urban Fabric addresses the idea of re-connecting civilians to the public spaces of Beijing along with connecting Beijing to the rest of the world. Through a series of interactive structures, communication between people both individually and collectively becomes a solution. Urban Fabric allows the user to respond to an active and constantly changing interface. By being able to manipulate the interface, the user is in partial control over private and public domains having a voice in society. This idea was generated in a team of two.
Text Box: Twist and Sit
This design is part of the dance studio design competition. The final concept can be found as IN/DE_CREASE in my portfolio. This design is based on the torsion of the body as it moves both vertically and horizontally. The wood members have an elegance to them because they can move freely from the same point
Text Box: Modular Reproduction Take 1
This project was a preliminary study on creating a modular unit that can become a building block for a larger installation. This idea seemed to be too mass-oriented and did not give enough play with dimensions. The final chosen piece can be found in the Digital Fabrication portion of the portfolio.
Text Box: Mechanically Operated Glazing Device Prototype: created for lab atmospheres
The idea for this project was inspired by a current wall system. The change made is that the glazed panels work as window units to allow the desired amount of light in depending on the task at hand. These units would be mechanically operated as a whole system.
Text Box: Bio-hazard Wallpaper
This project is a large scale wallpaper that is made of hundreds of syringes. The syringes are inserted into a translucent panel and light is emitted from behind the panel. This project raises awareness of issues regarding medical waste and the massive amounts of medicine used to treat illnesses.
Text Box: I-Park Natural Reflection
This project is a proposal for an installation at I_Park in Connecticut. It relates to how we experience nature, while altering the users experience of a natural pathway, giving him/her a new perspective on how to look at the environment. The reflective, man-made surface blurs the line between man-made and natural objects by reflecting the natural objects back at the viewer in a different way than he is used to seeing. This project is a team proposal with Allison Warren, an Architecture and Design Instructor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Text Box: Option 2: Reflective Pond : This option has a similar concept to the pathway, but portrays more of an idea of how one may experience the landscape as if they were in the middle of the water, instead of overlooking it, thus altering the users perception of the environment surrounding him/her.
